5460: THE JOE WEST PODCAST

5460: The Joe West Podcast with host Mike Claiborne, will feature the life and career of "Cowboy" Joe West, who spent over 40 years umpiring in MajorLeagaue Baseball and holds the all-time record, having umpired 5,460 games.  West, who started his career in September of 1976, was on the field for some of baseball's most historic and memorable performances, including Nolan Ryan's 5th career no-hitter, Willie McCovey's 500th Home Run, a 2012 perfect game thrown by Felix Hernandez and more.  In 1981, Joe West was 28 when became the youngest National League umpire to call a League Championship Series game and in his storied career, West umpired in 3 All-Star Games, 8 Divisional Series, 10 League Championship Series, and 6 World Series.

Outside of umpiring, Joe West is known as an avid golfer, participating on the Celebrity Players Tour, and as a country music singer-songwriter who has appeared at the Grand Ole Opry and performed with the likes of Mickie Gilley, Johnny Lee, and Merle Haggard.  West also appeared as an umpire in the 1988 comedy The Naked Gun: From the Files of Police Squad.

Mike Claiborne is a member of the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame who has covered baseball for more than 40 years and is in his 15th year as a part of the St. Louis Cardinals broadcast team.
